A soap recipe dedicated to my mother, who has loved digging in her garden since I was a toddler sitting next to her eating soil. I also remember her hands being rough and stained, and this is why we have used a variety of scrubby ingredients such as coarse mieliemeal, oats and poppyseeds, and combined them with oils that have softening qualities, like cold-pressed avocado and macadamia. The addition of freshly harvested Bulbine leaves from our garden, and raw propolis from our friends’ hives, help to soothe nicks and cuts. ( By the way, this soap is also appreciated by mechanics or anyone who enjoys a good exfoliating scrub .
